I am assembling my own tower speakers, and I have tested the speakers I am planning to use and I have noticed that there isnt much bass coming from them, I was wondering if there will be more bass once i put them in a box, and if so, are the any special methods I will need to accomplish this. Also if there is a way of simply amplifying the bass, how would I do this. I am downright confused, otherwise I will need to buy a subwoofer and i am trying to avoid doing so. Thanks a Ton

Yes you will hear more bass after the woofers are installed in the enclosure. Speakers - especially woofers, played without an enclosure always sound bad. If you have matched the speakers correctly, and have a good crossover there should be good balance. Since you are assembling them yourself, make very sure you observe speaker polarity, as that will affect bass response. Out of phase woofers will make it sound like you have no bass at all.

Will you need a subwoofer? How large are the woofers you are installing? If they aren't at least 12 inches, you are probably going to need a subwoofer as smaller woofers just don't have the proper bass response for really low, and powerful bass.

As for amplifying bass, if regular tone controls aren't good enough then you will have to buy an equalizer.

Wire one sub to each individual channel. Don’t bridge the amp it will overheat and die on you. Since the Amp is only rated at 4ohms bridged and wiring 2 4ohm speakers in parallel will give you a 2ohm load. You can wire your subs in series and give your amp an 8ohm load but and it wont hurt your amp, but the sound will not be that loud.

hello i have a vaxhall / opel / saturn Astra. I have thinking of getting a subwoofer with a built in amplifier. specifically one of the 2 in the links below

http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/7337.html
http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/pioneer-tswx20lpa-p-573.html

the question is - will i need to buy a new cd/mp3 player for the new subwoofer to be added OR can i just use the original manufacture factory fitted CD player

You can actually go either way. If you use the factory deck then you have to get a line output convertor that splices into the rear speaker wires and converts the high level output to a rca output. They cost anywhere form $10 to $100 depending on what brand you get. I would sugest getting an aftermarket deck with 4 volt preamp outputs for the simple fact that you will get a lot better signal to your sub. Better signal = better sound.

Pioneer Amplifier GM-D7400M
800 Watts Max 250 - 400 RMS Power. Class-D Mono Amplifier
Kenwood Deck KDC-MP208
In-dash receiver MP3/WMA/CD receiver with front aux input. Puts out 4×50 watts of power and plan to run the speakers off of this deck

Pioneer Car Speakers TS-A1672R
6-1/2″ 3-Way 220 Max Watts 35 Watt RMS Power Car Speakers

Pioneer TS-W257D4
10″ 800 Watt Max 350 Watt RMS Power. Dual 4-Ohm Subwoofer

Will all of this work together in my car I am kind of new to this and i did some research and it seems that this should all work or do i need to add or remove something. I already have the Enclosure and 1000 watt 8 gauge amp wiring kit my only comcern is if i can run the speakers off the deck anything and everything will help Thanks.

you can run the speakers off the radio but that radio only puts out about 20watts RMS x 4 so the speakers would be under powered so they wont play in their sweet spot
because the radio does not have the necessary RMS wattage is would go into clipping– Clipping occurs when an amplifier is asked to deliver more current to a speaker than the amp is capable of doing. When an amplifier clips, it literally cuts off the tops and bottoms of the musical waveforms that it’s trying to reproduce, thus the term. This introduces a huge amount of distortion into the output signal.- which cause distorted sound which over time will damage/blow your speakers

so as you turn the volume up the sound quality would begin to suffer from the lack of RMS wattage but you should be ok as long as you don’t send too much bass to them- get some bass blockers http://www.crutchfield.com/g_761/Bass-Blockers.html?search=bass+blockers&tp=3216

I want to upgrade my Home theater system. I would like to get a powered subwoofer, what difference will I notice? Will it shake the walls and tick off the neighbors too much, maybe I should keep the passive subwoofer? The one I have is nice but it could be a little better.

yes, you will notice a difference. There will be a more focused or dedicated output of bass. A powered sub should hit tighter and lower than a passive one. Also thee is a volume control on the back of the sub so you can adjust the bass to your liking. I Suggest you buy a sub woofer from either Velodyne, SVS, or HSU Research. I do own a velodyne myself that i use in my stereo setup along with a pair of KEF Bookshelf's in a small room. It is a very musical sub with extremely accurate and tight bass. And for Home Theater is just awesome it has the ability to rattle my windos if i crank the output up.

in a sealed custom subwoofer box 24" x 7" x 10"

with this amp
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_8852_Power+Acoustik+PS2-150.html

with that amp you would only be able to get 40 watts for each speaker…and the speakers can handle 100 watts…so…the answer is no…Look for an amp that sends 200 watts rms @ 2 ohms and wire the subs like the link below shows OR you can also look for a 2 channel amp that sends 100 watts rms @ 4 ohms per channel…and you would wire one speaker to one channel and the other speaker to the other channel

Vauxhall astra subwoofer wiring?

Posted by admin in 50

I have a Vauxhall astra 1.7D and am trying to run my power cable from the battery to the amp in the boot and cant get through the engine. What is the other way that i can run the cable to the boot.

trust me see a professional if you f*** up the wiring then your gonna be spending more than you wanted. it can also drain your battery if it not installed proberly. i have a 12″ twin vibe blackair 2 in mine and spent £30 getting it installed.

I really need to know because if it's the wrong cable, I need to exchange it. My subwoofer has only one input, not 2 for left and right, therefore, one cable dangles with no usage. If I use this cable, will I still be getting full signal or half?
It's for my home theatre by the way

Some amplified subs have both left and right inputs but yours only has one. IF your receiver only has one output for the subwoofer then it is sending the full signal. IF your receiver has both left and right subwoofer outputs you are only getting half the signal and in order to get full signal you will need a RCA splitter that allows you to connect both the left and right RCA and combines them into one. You can get them at any store like Best Buy and you can find them for cheap at Walmart and RadioShack.

The cable you have will work find either way, there are single RCA subwoofer cables but they are not as common as the dual L&R standard RCAs you have.

I am currently running 2 15" alpine 1542 D type R subs in the back of my galant and i want more bass and i am unsure as to which subs i should consider for my next purchase. I think i want to run 2 12" instead of the 15". I was looking at 2 pioneer premier competition SPL TSW3001-D4 SPL or 2 Alpine SWX-1243D. Which of the 2 is better? Also if there are any other subs that i should be looking at please let me know. I also need to kno what amps i should look at to properly push these subs. Thanks in advance for the help.

it sound like u want to get into a competition woofer …the premiers r good for that purpose …some other brands to consider r mmats juggernauts or dreadnauts(more musical than juggs) ,memphis mojos,or fi btls(best bang for buck woofer i know of)….all of these woofers will be just as good or better than the premiers in my opinion…amp wise i would look at mmats(i went to a comp and 2 of the 3 people who beat me used mmats amps), rockford t2000 or t4000, or memphis 2500 or 4000watt amps…good luck
