Everything Subwoofer

Archive for April, 2009

I am planning on building a nice subwoofer box for 2 12" subs that I have. There are two ports on the front of the box. The front of the box has a subwoofer, then port, another port, then another subwoofer. Anyways when the amp is on it lights up red and looks really cool. So I got this idea… I am putting red neon tubes inside of the sub box so the ports will light up red. Anyways I need some help wiring up the neon. On my power cable, there is a splitter for dual amps. I am only running one amp so could I use the other terminal for the power supply of the neon tubes? Thanks

use this site as a reference guide… this will allow your neons to only turn on when your amps are powered on from the radio… meaning whenever your radio isnt on your neons wont be saving the battery

look under adding additional devices to the remote lead you will need to purchase a relay circuit and they sell them on that website for like 5 bucks a piece.. also get their wiring kit for it its really easy to isntall then

Hi everyone. I have a kenwood amp:
http://www.amazon.com/Kenwood-KAC-8104D-1000-Watt-Amplifier-Variable/dp/B0012Z1M18/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1240358810&sr=8-1
and I had a 300W RMS kenwood sub too, but today it started smoking and stopped working. I think it was because I had the gain/bass boost set too high though any guidance there would be appreciated.
So I'm looking to get a new sub, and because I have had kickers in the past and they have never blown, I was looking at the 07CVR104:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000MRUUQU/ref=pd_luc_mri?_encoding=UTF8&m=A2TGMCZ4O2P52Z&v=glance
The only problem I have is that this is a dual voice coil sub and I had been using the amp with a single voice coil sub. So my first question is… would I wire it like this?:
http://akamaipix.crutchfield.com/ca/learningcenter/car/subwoofer_wiring/1DVC_4-ohm_mono.jpg

And my second question is that the sub says it can handle 400W RMS but the kenwood amp says that at 2 ohms it puts out 500. I DON'T want to blow another sub, so will this be a problem? Or can I just turn down the gains?

Ok. You might be able to push that CVR with 500 watts RMS, if you have it in a sealed box that is the right volume. Turn the gain down a tad maybe. I have a pair of the 12" CVRs that are getting 450-500 RMS each every day. I have them in a sealed box, 2.55 cubic feet common chamber. If you want a sub with more power handling, look at the CVX (600 RMS) or an Alpine Type R (500 RMS). The 10" CVR is rated at 300 RMS in a ported box, or a big sealed box. It is 400 RMS in a smaller sealed box. What size and type of box do you have?
