I know next to nothing about car audio, so I'm wondering about the purpose of each piece. What is the function of a) subwoofers, and b)amplifiers ? Thanks!
1 head unit-cd player with an mp3 input jack,wiring kit-power wires ground wire and rca"s. front stage speakers prefer full range speakers.,rear stage speakers,battery terminal connector, a capacitor if over 500 rms, 2 sub-woofers in a sealed box. both subs need to be single voice coil 4 ohms wired in parrell for a 2 ohm load on the amp. one mono amplifier and a lot of sound deadening. good luck.

I am looking into getting 2 "PYLE PLW12RD 12" 800W Car Audio Subwoofers" (you can find them on ebay) and a 1600W power amp. I also need some speakers (looking at 2 200W each). First Question is: do i hook up those speakers to the amp or the head unit?(radio/cd/whatever you have). Witch brings me to the second question: Will i need to upgrade the head unit at all or can i use the stock one?

That amp you are looking at is a scam! Made by Cuspid? Yup, JUNK! But if you already bought it then I'm sorry. You can hook that amp up using the pre-amp wiring harness. You just have to splice the wires into the rear speaker wires. Always hook up subs to an amp. If you wish to get a new head unit then you would hook up the amp with RCA cables. Word of advice. You get what you pay for. A friend of mine bought that amp and had to install noise filters to cut down the feedback he got from the alternator til he got sick of it and bought a good amp.

Some of the best extreme footage of my car audio stereo system so far. I Definately have the deepest and loudest bass around, not the best bass on youtube ofcourse, or even the loudest stereo in the world , just at least the loudest Van in Maine!!! We got water tricks, shirt tricks, shoe tricks, and frankly, some tricks you ain’t even seen before!! I’ll take on a kicker any day!!! Again, I’m not saying I’m louder than steve meade or anything….Though, a lot of people are louder than steve meade, I am not there yet. But one day, Steve Meade will be my underscore. What is the difference between PA subwoofers and car audio subs?

I've done some looking into this because car subs are usually a bit cheaper than PA subs and I was thinking about building my own bass stack for 'fun'.
Car subs have mechanical compliance, active displacement, and impedance specs that lend themselves to smaller enclosures and higher currents (lower voltages), than PA subs. That's about all the difference I've seen.
Sound? well that's one man's opinion versus another. The car subs I've heard do not lend themselves to the type of music I play (Christian rock).
