The explosive stereophonic sound which took over movie theaters during the 1950’s has today turned into an exciting home theater experience. Amazing, realistic sounds and a life like movie experience pulled people away from their brand new 50s black and white television sets. As technology advanced, the home theater with dynamic sound was born.

Surround sound systems brought revving car motors and thunderous sounds right into your living room. Surround sound gets it name from a type of sound system where the sound output appears to ‘surround’ the listener. With surround sound speakers placed in strategic locations, sound coming from all directions, creating an exciting experience.

No matter what type of big screen, flat panel, plasma or LCD display TV you have, a surround sound speaker system will enhance it. There are several options you can take including assembling your own system to buying a packaged one. If you assemble your own, you will need about five to seven home theater speakers, a subwoofer, and a multi channel receiver. Many companies sell complete surround sound systems including wireless ones. Probably the easiest way to get started is to buy a (HTIB) Home Theater in a Box which is a prepackaged system and contains everything needed but the kitchen sink and the TV. The speakers are matched for sound and all components work with each other.

Having the best surround sound system you can afford will improve your home theater experience. What first started in the movie theaters of yesteryear has advanced to rich three dimensional sound for your home TV. For those of you looking for a great sound system without the hassles of assembling or building your own, selecting an HTIB is your best bet. The Home Theater in a Box comes complete with everything needed. Set up is easy and within minutes, you will be at the movies without fighting the crowds.

Im looking to build my own box, i know what i need (3/4 MDF board, speaker terminals, glue and such), but i just need the plans for a subwoofer box to house a 12 inch sub, with 2.50 cubic feet of air space. Thanks!

Do your own, check the space you have and then you can make the box, later you can add a front port and a baffle inside to do resonance trick, remember sound travels (bass) at low speed and you need to have some insulation and a resonance box to do the trick, is not that hard it’s a try and error. Good luck.

how to build a subwoofer box?

Posted by admin in subwoofer box

i would like to know how to build a subwoofer box for a fi btl 18 inch sub. also what do i ned to build it and what type of material should the box be?

All sub boxes you can buy from stores are made from quarter-inch MDF boards that you can buy from Lowes, Home Depot, etc.

For the custom, fancy, flashy show off boxes you would see in show cars, they made from mostly fiber glass and some MDF board for integrity.

I no speaker wire goes from the box to the amp…. but what type of wire do I need to hook the subwoofer up to the box? Is it those little red and black wires? (Showing a pic could really help)
No i mean first you hook up the subwoofer to the box. Then from the box you hook it up to the amp…

you dont hook the subwoofer to the box you hook it to the amp with positive and negative wires. it doesnt have to be red and black mine are white and black with black as ground and white as power.
its pretty simple really. you kind of need to research how electricity works a little more before you try hooking up subs.

Does anyone have this car? bmw 528i the 1999 model. The trunk it pretty small and i was wondering if a 17 Ft tall box would fit (subwoofer box)? thanks
17 inches**

yes it can fit thats if you using 1 sub 15”, i would recommend that you use 2 12, for that space you would have better sound quality and a hard hitting bass, for that type of space,
